Hey friends, it’s Tung here!

When you look at our work at Maii Studio, you probably just see the artist chasing the sunset. But here’s a fun fact: before I dedicated my life to preserving love stories, I was actually a Finance Manager with a Master’s degree. My life used to be all about spreadsheets and managing risks.

It sounds like a huge jump, right? But honestly, finance taught me how to spot real value. After spending over a decade shooting weddings with my amazing wife Mai, I’ve realized something huge: Memories are the only asset that never loses value.

I’m sharing this to help you navigate the tricky money side of a wedding. Let's make sure you invest in what really matters: your legacy.

The "Smart Investment" Mindset

When couples come to us in Berlin, they’re often super stressed about money. The wedding industry is loud, and costs add up fast. But trust me, a budget isn't a cage; it’s actually your ticket to freedom!

If you plan smart—perhaps by weighing an All-Inclusive vs. Modular approach—you can easily say "yes" to the things you truly love.

Here’s how to handle your planning like a pro:

1. The "Liquidity Check": Stop Guessing!

Just like in business, you gotta check your cash flow first. Don't just pick a budget number because it "sounds good"—that’s a recipe for panic later on!

Sit down and really look at what you have:

  • Current Savings: What have you saved just for this day?

  • Cash Flow: How much can you realistically save each month until the wedding?

Once you have a total, use my "Golden Rule": Take 10–15% off the top immediately and put it in an "Emergency Fund." Do not touch this money! It’s your safety net. If you don't need it, awesome—extra cash for the honeymoon! But if something pops up, you’ll be so glad it’s there.

2. Guest Count Economics: The Game Changer

Here’s the deal: your guest count changes everything. It drives up the cost of catering, rentals, invites, drinks—you name it.

If your dream wedding doesn't fit your budget, please don't try to find a "cheaper" photographer or serve bad food. Look at your guest list instead. Cutting the headcount is the best way to save money without sacrificing quality. A small, intimate wedding with amazing food and stunning photos is way better than a massive event where you have to cut corners.

3. The Core Argument: Is It Worth It?

Think about your budget in two buckets: Stuff that goes away (Consumables) and Stuff that stays (Assets).

  • Consumables: Things like the cake, flowers, food, and favors. They’re beautiful and fun for the day, but poof—they’re gone when the party ends.

  • Assets: Things that last forever. Photography and Videography are your assets.

When you hire Maii Studio, you aren't just paying for a service; you’re buying an heirloom. Decades from now, the cake is history. The flowers are dust. But your wedding film? It lets you hear your dad’s voice again. It lets you see how young and in love you looked.

Splurging on a top-tier photo and video team isn't just emotional; it’s a smart financial move. You’re securing the only real proof that this amazing day happened.

The Symphony of Photo & Video

Don't put all your eggs in one basket! You really shouldn't rely on just one medium. Photo and Video are different, but they work together perfectly.

Photography: The Anchor

Photos freeze time. As a wedding photographer in Berlin, I love turning a split second into art for your wall. It grabs the "look"—the lace, the tear, the family portrait. It’s the anchor of your memory.

Videography: The Soul

Video captures what photos miss: the sound and the movement.

  • Sound: A photo shows a laugh; video lets you hear it. A photo shows you at the altar; video captures the shake in your voice during vows.

  • Movement: It catches the wind in your dress, your clumsy first dance steps, and the cheers during toasts.

Without video, your memory is silent. You really need both to keep the whole experience alive.

Finding Your Vibe: Which Style Fits You?

Every couple is different, so your film should be too! As a wedding videographer in Berlin, I don't force a style on you. At Maii Studio, we help you find what feels right. Here are your options:

1. The Cinematic Highlight (The Movie Trailer)

Imagine a movie trailer for your love story. It’s dramatic, polished, and full of emotion. We mix up the timeline—maybe starting with a speech and cutting back to the morning. It makes you feel like movie stars!

2. The Documentary Style

This is for the realists. It’s raw and unscripted. We’re just flies on the wall, capturing things as they happen. No posing, no "do that again." Just the messy, beautiful reality.

3. The "Vintage Soul" (Maii Studio Signature)

This is our favorite! Mai and I love nostalgia. The "Vintage Soul" style isn't just a filter; it’s a feeling.

Think of a warm memory found in an attic. We use colors that look like 90s film—warm tones, soft greens, and a bit of grain. It’s imperfectly perfect. It feels timeless. If you’re an old soul, this is definitely for you.

Insider Tips – Germany’s Best Spots

Location is huge for that "Vintage Soul" look. Germany (and especially Berlin) has some incredible spots if you know where to look!

The Urban Icons

For a grand feel, you can't beat the Brandenburg Gate or Museum Island. But pro tip: go at sunrise! The light is soft blue, the tourists are sleeping, and the city is all yours.

Intimate & Alternative

Want that gritty, artistic Berlin vibe? Let’s head to Kreuzberg. The hidden courtyards, graffiti walls, and the Spree River banks at sunset look amazing with a wedding dress. It’s cool, real, and super romantic.

Romantic & Rustic

For a fairytale vibe, check out a Barn Wedding (Scheunenhochzeit) in Brandenburg or the castles in Potsdam. The wood, stone, and nature textures work perfectly with our warm vintage editing.

Why Maii Studio? The Power of a Duo

Hiring a team means investing in people. Here’s why Mai and I are a great pick:

We aren't just partners; we’re a married couple with over 10 years together! We have a rhythm you just can't get with strangers. We work without words.

If I’m shooting the groom, I know Mai is getting the bride. We never block each other. It’s like a dance.

Plus, we make you feel comfortable. We know what love feels like, and we know wedding stress! We treat you like friends, not clients. When you relax, you look natural, and that’s when the magic happens.

Practical Advice for the Big Day

Want the best return on your investment? Here are two quick tips:

The Golden Hour Timeline

Light is everything! When planning, please talk to us. Try to save 45 minutes during the "Golden Hour" (right before sunset) for portraits. The light is soft and flattering—it makes everything look magical!

The Unplugged Ceremony

You’re paying for a professional film, right? Don't let it get ruined by a bunch of iPhones blocking the aisle! Politely ask guests to put phones away during the ceremony. Let them be present, and let us handle the cameras. Your film will look so much better!

Conclusion: Freedom Through Structure

Let’s go back to the budget for a sec.

I know money talk isn't romantic, but it's necessary. Using a tool like the Wedding Budget Template helps you stay in control. No more guessing!
